A witness in the trial of Nikola Burgazliev, who was responsible for keeping the quad bike from the fatal Sunny Beach crash in working order, is not qualified to check its engine and brakes. The witness, who is 18, admitted this today at Burgas Regional Court.
The owner of the ride business that the quad bike belongs to hired him to maintain the vehicles, but he is not a professional mechanic.
Burgazliev is charged over a serious crash at Sunny Beach on 14 August 2025. The quad bike he was driving hit pedestrians on the pavement and killed Hristina Zdravkova, 35.
The same quad bike was involved in an earlier incident on 17 June 2023. An 18-year-old man driving it hit a kiosk with a woman inside. He said the brakes had failed.
The trial continues.
Updated (07.10, 14:56): The young man responsible for the ATV's safety is 19, not 18 as first reported, BTA said. He worked under a civil contract for four hours a day. Three other pedestrians were badly hurt in the crash, including the child of the woman who died. The hearing was halted after a bomb threat at the courthouse. The next one is set for 3 November.
