On November 27th, the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Bar Council (VASC) and the beginning of the independent and self-governing bar will be celebrated in the "Bulgaria" hall, the VASC announced.
Key representatives of the legislative, executive, and judicial authorities are invited to the event, including the President, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Prime Minister, and others.
Key moments in history:
- The adoption of the Lawyers Act in 1925 - a key moment for self-governance and self-control.
- Prior to that, the profession was regulated by a Law from 1888, but without corporate structure.
- The 1925 Act introduced mandatory membership in bar associations, which are legal entities.
- The VASC was created, which assumed disciplinary responsibility.
- The conditions for obtaining legal capacity are regulated.
- The law is a great victory for the legal profession.
November 22nd is celebrated as the Day of the Bulgarian Bar with a decision of the Supreme Bar Council from February 26, 2005, related to the adoption of the first Lawyers Act in 1888.
