The management of the NHIF has proposed to the Ministry of Health (MH) to expand access to patients' personal files in the National Health Information System (NHIS). The possibility will be provided to relatives of elderly and seriously ill people, so that they can monitor the medical information about their loved ones.
The need for this change becomes particularly evident after the revelations about illegal homes for the elderly, where the relatives of the residents have not received timely and complete information about the health status and treatment procedures of their relatives.
NHIF has sent specific texts for regulatory change to regulate the process of granting access. This can be done by submitting an application or presenting a notarized power of attorney.
