Tomorrow, June 12, from 20:00 to 04:00 on June 13, traffic will be suspended for all vehicles on the Danube Bridge in Ruse. The reason is an emergency repair of a joint in the unrenovated section of the facility. The implementation of the urgent activities will ensure the safety of travel until the start of construction work in this section.
The major repair of the Danube Bridge began on July 10, 2024, and the construction and installation work is carried out daily without interrupting traffic. So far, the two lanes in the 413-meter section of the bridge have been repaired. Currently, the next 320 meters in the lane towards Bulgaria are being rehabilitated, with two-way traffic in the lane towards Romania.
The replacement of the reinforced concrete panels of the bridge is continuing. 533 new panels have already been produced. The pedestrian block has also been removed, and the compromised surfaces have been prepared for shotcreting.
The route of the Bulgarian territory of the Danube Bridge, which is part of road I-2, has a total length of 1.057 km. The bridge was put into operation in 1954 and has not undergone a major overhaul until now. More than 22 years ago, the joints were reinforced, and in 2011, the waterproofing and asphalt pavement were replaced.
The Road Infrastructure Agency calls on drivers to comply with the parameters for the admissibility of passing vehicles and the imposed speed limit of 20 km/h. Oversized vehicles can cause damage to the already repaired section and lead to additional, unforeseen activities.
Current information on the repair work can be found in the special section "Information on the repair of the Danube Bridge" on the website of the Road Infrastructure Agency.
