The repair of the 413-meter section in the direction of Romania on the Danube Bridge near Ruse is completed. Favorable weather conditions are expected by Sunday to complete the final activities for the installation of the pedestrian railing, the restraint systems, and the application of the horizontal markings. This brings the main repaired sections in both directions to 413 meters. The renovation of the carriageway in the direction of Bulgaria was completed in December last year.
The repair of the next 320 meters of the truss (steel) section of the bridge in the carriageway in the direction of Bulgaria will follow. Construction work will begin on the section immediately after the already repaired section in the same carriageway. Traffic will continue to be carried out in both directions on the carriageway where no work is being carried out, as before.
Repair work on the Danube Bridge is carried out daily during daylight hours, depending on weather conditions. The organization of the work process allows vehicles to pass gradually in both directions on the carriageway where no construction work is being carried out.
The total length of the Danube Bridge route on Bulgarian territory is 1.057 km. The facility, put into operation in 1954, has not undergone a major overhaul until now.
