Interior Minister Daniel Mitov and Deputy Assistant Secretary Sonata Kolter held a meeting in Washington, during which they reported on the significant progress of Bulgaria in the US visa-free travel program. Mitov, accompanied by heads of key police directorates, stated that the new Bulgarian government is determined to fulfill its priority of abolishing American visas for Bulgarian citizens.
During the meeting, the two discussed the measures that Bulgaria needs to take together with the US to get off the so-called "gray list" of countries threatened by money laundering. Mitov emphasized that our country already has a stable government, determined to fulfill its mandate and join the Eurozone by 2026.
According to Mitov, Bulgaria has made significant progress on the measures envisaged for its inclusion in the US visa-free program, and hopes to join it in the near future. He assured that the government will make all necessary efforts to fully meet the criteria of the US administration.
The meeting between Mitov and Kolter lasted for more than an hour and marks the beginning of the working visit of the Bulgarian Interior Minister to the United States. It is part of the efforts of the new Bulgarian government to accelerate the process of including the country in the US visa-free travel program, which is one of its main priorities.
