The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria Georgi Georgiev held a telephone conversation with his counterpart from the Republic of North Macedonia Timcho Mucunski, in which he informed him about the decision of the 51st National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, adopted on May 30, 2025, regarding the progress of the Republic of North Macedonia in the process of joining the European Union.
Georgiev stressed that this act confirms the unchanged position of Bulgaria for a categorical commitment to the European consensus of July 2022 and issues an encouraging appeal to the government in Skopje to implement the agreements reached. He pointed out that our country has no conditions beyond the elements of the European consensus, which is a clear signal of Bulgaria's constructive approach.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elena Shekerletsova officially handed over the Decision of the National Assembly of May 30 to the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia in Sofia Agneza Rusi Popovska and acquainted her with its full text. Shekerletsova stressed that this act demonstrates the broad consensus in Bulgaria regarding the European path of the Western Balkans.
Shekerletsova expressed hope that the balanced tone in the text of the Decision and the clear guarantee that our country has no other conditions beyond the agreed measures in the European consensus will be objectively recognized and communicated in the public space by the political leadership of the Republic of North Macedonia.
Bulgaria shows consistency in its support for the Republic of North Macedonia and remains closely engaged in the implementation of the agreements between the EU and Skopje.
