There is hardly any more pleasant news for the beginning of the year than this - Burgas region is at the top of the tourist ranking in Bulgaria. But how did this happen? And what does it mean for us, ordinary people?
Burgas - Leading Destination
According to data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI), in 2025 the Burgas region registered an impressive 2,155,696 tourists. This clearly shows the successful efforts of the local authorities and the Ministry of Tourism.
At a meeting in the building of the Burgas Regional Administration, the outgoing Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh, the regional governor Vladimir Krumov, the mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov and representatives of the municipalities of the region discussed how this position was reached. What are the factors that led to this success?
A Look at the Statistics
Minister Borshosh presented the data from the Unified System for Tourist Information (ESTI) for 2025. They show a sustained interest from foreign tourists, especially from key markets such as Germany, Israel and Turkey. Interesting, isn't it? The growth of tourists is not only during the summer months, but also during the spring and autumn. This is a well-thought-out strategy.
One of the key efforts was the national campaign "Longevity". It was implemented by the Ministry of Tourism together with the Burgas region and the Black Sea municipalities. The idea was for the Southern Black Sea coast to be presented not only as a place for the beach, but also for cultural and sports tourism, festivals, culinary delights, SPA and excursions in September and October. The goal is clear - to extend the season and attract more tourists.
Joint Work and Successes
Miroslav Borshosh emphasizes the key role of joint work with local authorities and the tourism industry for the sustainable development of tourism and the creation of jobs in the region. It is obvious that this partnership has yielded results.
The creation of a tourism coordination unit at the Burgas Regional Administration is another important step. It coordinates and supports the promotion of event calendars, festivals and tourist routes. The idea is simple - to present the region as a single destination, to facilitate marketing and increase the recognition of the Southern Black Sea coast on international markets. Logical, isn't it?
Cultural Events and Festivals - an Additional Boost
Minister Borshosh noted that cultural events and festivals play a key role in attracting tourists outside the traditional summer season. They give an additional boost to local business, tourism and cultural life. The Southern Black Sea coast can become a significant festival center. Is this the future of the region?
Recognition for Achievements
In recognition of the achieved results, Miroslav Borshosh presented a special plaque to the regional governor Vladimir Krumov. "The destination is a positive example of how the partnership between the state, local authorities and business can turn a region into a driving force of Bulgarian tourism," he said. This is important recognition.
Vladimir Krumov thanked for the recognition and emphasized that the leadership of the Burgas region is the result of joint work and a clear vision. The development of the Southern Black Sea coast as a year-round destination is a priority.
The mayors and representatives of the municipalities also expressed their gratitude to the outgoing Minister of Tourism for his support and good cooperation.
What's Next?
Minister Borshosh concluded that when there is a common vision and consistent work, the results are sustainable and inspiring. Is there a guarantee that this success will continue? What are the next steps for the development of tourism in the Burgas region?
Perhaps we are about to find out. But for now - congratulations to the people of Burgas!
