Three percent chance of rain and seven hours of sun
That is the chance of rain in Burgas today. Tuesday will be dry, cloudy and mild, with temperatures from 15 to 19 degrees. The sun rises at 07:28 and sets at 18:20, and of these 11 hours of daylight, about 7 will break through the clouds.
At 8 a.m. it is 15 degrees and the humidity is 86 percent, so the commute to work is cool and damp. By 2 p.m. the thermometer reaches 19 degrees and it will feel just that warm, while humidity drops to 71 percent. At 8 p.m. it is 17 degrees, but the air fills with moisture again, up to 90 percent. The ultraviolet index is 3, and sunscreen is needed only by those who will spend a long time outside at midday.
East wind with gusts up to 31 km/h
The wind is turning. In recent days it blew from the west, but today it comes from the east, at about 15 km/h, at times up to 31. For Burgas this means air from the sea, more humid and milder at night. It will be fresher along Kraybrezhna and in the Sea Garden than in the neighborhoods further inland. The air is clean, the air quality index is 39, and that is a good level.
Dry soil needs water, fallen leaves pile up
There will be no rain for the gardens. With seven hours of sun, the top layer of soil dries quickly, especially in pots on balconies and in beds of autumn flowers. Anyone who waters is better off doing it in the morning or before noon. In the evening the humidity reaches 90 percent and the leaves stay wet until morning, which makes it easier for roses and grass to pick up fungal diseases.
The gusts of wind will bring down more leaves from the trees along the streets and in the parks. Under the leaves, asphalt and paving tiles remain damp from the dew, so step carefully on the paths. Lawns are still growing, because the nights are warm and today the temperature does not drop below 15 degrees. The soil is also warm, and now is a good time for planting tulips and hyacinths and for transplanting shrubs.
The sea is 19 degrees, waves up to 20 centimeters
The water is around 19 degrees, the same as the air in the warmest part of the day. The sea is calm, with waves up to 0.2 meters. Swimming is only for those used to cold water, and only briefly around noon.
On 20 October 2016 it was only 14 degrees
Years ago, on the same date, it was cooler in Burgas. The average high for 20 October in the archive is about 17 degrees, so today is two degrees above it. The coldest was in 2016, with a maximum of only 14 degrees, and the warmest in 1996, when the mercury reached nearly 19. Last year the morning had only 6 degrees. Today's 15 degrees at night is the highest minimum of all these years, and in each of them it was dry on this date. Five years are too few to draw a conclusion about the climate, but today is at the upper end of the archive.
A sweater in the morning, watch out for wet leaves on the road
For Tuesday morning a light jacket or a sweater is enough, and at midday a long-sleeved top will do. If you run or cycle, the most pleasant time will be between 12 and 16, when it is warmest and the air is drier. For a walk by the sea after work, take a layer, because with the east wind and the moisture by the water it is cooler than the thermometer shows.
Drivers should be careful on bends and roundabouts, where there are leaves on the road. In the evening car windows fog up quickly, so it is good to have the air conditioning on.
Wednesday begins with fog
Tomorrow morning there will be fog, with temperatures from 13 to 20 degrees, no rain, an east wind of about 13 km/h and an ultraviolet index of 4.
