One person has been killed and at least four wounded in a shooting in the Yvelines department, west of Paris. A suspect has been arrested, French prime minister Sébastien Lecornu said on Friday.

A man fired at people from his car. A 12-year-old girl is among the wounded.

Lecornu wrote on X that security forces have been fully mobilised. "The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office has said it is monitoring the situation," he added.

The prosecutor's office confirmed it is following the case but did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The prefecture declined to comment.

The suspect lived in a town next to Trappes. Trappes mayor Ali Rabeh said the man seemed to fire at random and appeared set on carrying out a massacre. He said nothing is known so far about a motive.
