Kristian Nikolov asks Sofia City Court today at 10.30am to free him early on parole. Nikolov was convicted over the crash that killed journalist Milen Tsvetkov.
He filed the request in October. Last Thursday it emerged that the hearing was set for this week.
The background: Court to decide if man convicted over Milen Tsvetkov's death can be freed early
He is serving nine years in prison. The Supreme Court of Cassation upheld the sentence for good in July 2023.
The crash happened on Easter Sunday, 19 April 2020, in Sofia. Nikolov's car hit Tsvetkov's car at high speed as it waited at a red light. Expert tests showed the driver had taken drugs.
The court will decide whether there are legal grounds for release. It will look at whether the convict has reformed, how long he has spent in custody and in prison, and whether he has broken prison rules.
