A white Speedy courier van drove onto the traffic island at the entrance to Sarafovo, a district of Burgas, this morning. The tip and photos came from a witness.
The van is making it hard to get into the district, and a queue of cars has built up behind it.
It happened near the Billa supermarket and the roundabout, at an hour when traffic is usually heavier. The van's rear wheels are stuck between the kerb and the road.
Drivers are going around it to reach the residential part of Sarafovo, which slows the morning commute into the district.
The driver probably took the wrong turn onto the Sarafovo road and drove onto the island. How exactly it happened is not clear.
Burgas was wrapped in thick fog this morning, and visibility on the roads was poor. Unofficially, the fog is one of the possible causes, but there is no official confirmation that the weather led to the crash. In fog, drivers find it harder to find their way where roads split and where there are kerbs and islands.
A traffic police team is expected at the scene to run checks and establish what happened. Results of the driver's alcohol and drug tests are also due. There are no reports of injuries, and it is not clear whether the road or other infrastructure was damaged.
A recovery truck will probably lift the van off the island. The towing itself may block the way into Sarafovo even more.
