The European Mobility Week is an annual campaign of the European Commission, held from 16 to 22 September, with the main goal of encouraging European municipalities to introduce and support sustainable transport and modes of mobility. The theme for 2025 is "Mobility for All", with the aim of ensuring that all people have access to sustainable transport, regardless of their income, location, gender or abilities.
Many people face challenges such as high costs or lack of transport options, which limit their access to jobs, education and basic services, known as transport poverty. Our campaign invites us to imagine and build societies where transport services are available, accessible, affordable, inclusive and safe, ensuring that public transport, walking and cycling are fair options for everyone.
The Social Climate Fund helps communities and households adapt to these changes by supporting affordable and sustainable mobility solutions. The main events take place every year from 16 to 22 September, usually ending with the popular "Car-Free Day".
Local authorities are encouraged to use the main week to test innovative planning measures, promote new infrastructure and technologies, measure air quality and receive feedback from the public. With more cities joining each year and its huge media visibility, the campaign is widely recognized as a driving force towards sustainable urban mobility in Europe and beyond.
