Artist Zhanina Dubarova opens her solo exhibition "Babylon" on 19 October at 5:30pm in the exhibition hall of the Burgas Artists' Society. It shows new works that have not been displayed before.
It is her fourth solo show. It features paintings, drawings and collages made over the past year and grouped in several themed series.
The series are linked by children's drawing, which is both an inspiration and part of the works themselves. In many of them, Dubarova has used real drawings by her son. The freedom and spontaneity of a child meet the professional skill of an academically trained artist.
"'Babylon' is the place where a long journey ended, one that began as a search for free expression," the artist says. The name refers to the many ideas, images, techniques and artistic languages brought together in one place.
Art historian Dr Milena Balcheva-Bozhkova says the paintings are "between the gesture and the image".
Dubarova graduated from the National Academy of Art and teaches at its Burgas branch.
On 8 October we reported that the Burgas Photographic Community will open its 18th annual exhibition, with works by 22 photographers, in the same hall on 12 October.
The exhibition at 22 Aleksandrovska Street will be open until 31 October 2026.
