The return to astronomical time, which marks the end of daylight saving time, will happen tonight, when clocks will be turned back one hour. The announcement was disseminated by the Bulgarian Institute of Metrology to BTA, signaling the upcoming change in the way we measure time in the country. The exact date for the transition to winter time is set for 4:00 local time.
This adjustment to the time is made in accordance with Directive 2000/84/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of the European Union. This directive, adopted on January 19, 2021, defines the rules for the transition between daylight saving time and winter time within the European Union, ensuring harmonization in this area.
We recall that on March 30 this year, the country switched to daylight saving time. This meant a one-hour movement of the clocks forward to make the most of the daylight during the summer months.
The regulation of the change of time, both summer and winter, is based on Decree 94 of the Council of Ministers of March 13, 1997, according to information from the "Reference" department at BTA. According to this decree, every year on the night before the last Sunday of October, winter time is introduced, which includes turning the clocks back one hour. On the other hand, the transition to daylight saving time takes place on the last Sunday of March, with the clocks being moved one hour forward.
