Regional health inspectorates will take immediate action against cosmetic facilities that continue to offer products containing the toxic ingredient Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide (TPO) after September 1, 2025. The official statement from the Ministry of Health (MH) emphasizes the categorical nature of the upcoming ban.
The European Union classified TPO as an extremely hazardous substance in October 2023, defining it as a substance that is toxic to reproductive health. The new regulatory requirements will cover all member states, with the aim of maximizing consumer protection from potentially harmful chemical compounds.
The large-scale regulatory initiative covers not only TPO but also other potentially dangerous chemicals classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic, or reproductive toxic. This strategy demonstrates a consistent approach to ensuring the safety of cosmetic products.
In response to the upcoming ban, manufacturers are already actively developing alternative formulas. Experts from the MH note that a significant percentage of market products are already TPO-free, which shows the rapid adaptability of the cosmetic industry.
Additional warnings from dermatologists also highlight another significant risk - acrylates in gel varnishes can cause serious allergic reactions, which further reinforces the need for strict control over cosmetic ingredients.
