Employment in Varna Region: Trends and Analysis for 2025

Last year, the economically inactive individuals aged 15 to 64 in the Varna region exceeded 61,000, of whom more than 40,000 were women, according to the Territorial Statistical Bureau “North-East”.

The institution specifies that economically inactive individuals are those who are not working and are not registered as unemployed during the observed period.

According to statistics, the total number of employed in the region in 2025 is 227,500 people, with over 124,000 of them being men. Compared to 2024, the number of employed decreased by 1.8 percent.

The employment rate for the population aged 15 and over is 61 percent. For men, it exceeds 70 percent, while for women it is 52.5 percent. The employed aged 15 to 64 are 216,800 people.

The employment rate for people aged 55–64 is nearly 90 percent, increasing by 2.3 percentage points on an annual basis.

The highest employment is among people with higher education. In the region, they are over 106 thousand people. Those with secondary education are 95 thousand, and with primary and lower education – 15,600 thousand. The employment rate for those with higher education is 93 percent, 0.8 percentage points lower compared to 2024.
