Police in Kardzhali have detained a 67-year-old village mayor for up to 24 hours on suspicion of making false official documents for insurance record. He was held under the Interior Ministry Act by the economic crime unit of the Kardzhali regional police directorate (ODMVR).
Officers who looked into a case file found that sample documents showing insurance record had been drawn up in the name of a company from Gabrovo. Seven residents of Kardzhali region have already handed such papers in to the local office of the National Social Security Institute (NOI) in Kardzhali, asking for a personal pension.
Officers from the same unit also checked a village hall in the region, where they found two more ready-made documents. Experts will now check whether they are genuine.
The case is being investigated under Article 308 of the Criminal Code, which covers document crimes.
