President Iliana Yotova made her first comments following the April 19 elections

The Head of State made a statement to the media, in which she shared her first impressions of the results and the expectations for the future political development in the country.

"After next week, there will most likely be a convening of the National Assembly, but I cannot say the specific date. I have my options, but let us wait for the official results."

The President emphasized that despite the challenges, she remains optimistic regarding the formation of the executive branch:

Yotova also congratulated the Bulgarian voters for the high turnout and their faith in the transparency of the process:

"I congratulate all Bulgarian voters who believed in their vote. Who believed that they are stronger than a bought vote, than the various schemes, than the trading of influence, and declared it categorically on Sunday."

The Head of State noted the role of the Ministry of Interior in organizing the elections, but directed attention to the need for justice regarding the reports of violations:

"From now on, the ball is in the hands of the Bulgarian prosecution. I believe that from now on we will speak of a state with legality. The prosecution must do its job regarding the reports of vote-buying."

In conclusion, the President also shared her emotional reaction regarding the performance of the BSP, stating: The results did not surprise me, but this does not spare me the enormous disappointment."
