President Iliana Yotova spoke with Andorra's prime minister, Xavier Espot Zamora, about closer ties on tourism, the president's press office said.
The two met on the sidelines of the general political debate at the 81st session of the U.N. General Assembly, where Yotova is leading the Bulgarian delegation.
"Bulgaria has great conditions for winter sports and experience hosting European and international competitions. We're also proud of how well our athletes are doing," Yotova told him. She said she wants Bulgaria to learn from Andorra's experience and build direct links between ski resorts in the two countries.
She suggested the two countries run joint projects to show tourists what each has to offer.
Espot Zamora said Andorra is ready to share its know-how on building up tourism, noting the country draws more than 10 million visitors a year.
They also talked about the war Russia launched against Ukraine in February 2022, which they said has hit all of Europe hard. They also touched on the Middle East conflict, which has pushed up fuel prices.
Yotova repeated her view that weapons alone won't end the war in Ukraine and that peace must come through talks. She said the European Union should have a seat at those talks too, something it currently lacks.
"For Bulgaria, security in the Black Sea and free shipping there matter a great deal, because the sea is one of the main routes for food supplies, especially to Africa," she said.
