Fog around the lakes and 13 degrees at 8 a.m.
Friday in Burgas begins with fog that lingers longest over Vaya, Lake Atanasovsko and the low-lying areas around them. The sun rises at 07:16 and clears the sky by 8 o'clock, but the air is cool and damp. The thermometer shows 13 degrees, humidity is 88 percent, and the cars and park benches are wet with dew. On the way to work or school, take a jacket or a thick top.
26 degrees at 2 p.m., up to 28 in the afternoon
By midday the day warms up like in summer. At 2 p.m. it is 26 degrees under a clear sky, humidity drops to 44 percent, and the air is dry and light. It is warmest later in the afternoon, up to 28 degrees, with a feels-like temperature of about 27. That is about 7 degrees more than Thursday, when the forecast gave up to 21. Of the 11 hours of daylight, about 10 are sunny. The UV index is 4, and after two hours outside your face picks up some color, so sunglasses and a hat won't be superfluous. The air is clean, the quality index is 37, which is a good level.
The evening is 22 degrees, the sun sets at 18:38
The sun sets at 18:38, and at 8 p.m. it is still 22 degrees under an almost clear sky. For a walk in the Sea Garden or along the seafront promenade a T-shirt is enough, but humidity rises to 71 percent and it gets cooler by the water. Overnight into Saturday the mercury drops to about 15 degrees.
Southwest wind and waves up to 20 centimeters in the bay
The wind is southwesterly, about 12 km/h, with gusts up to 24. In Burgas it blows from the land toward the sea and keeps the bay calm. Waves are up to 20 centimeters, the water is smooth, and the day is convenient for small boats and for fishing from the Bridge, the breakwater and the rocks toward Sarafovo. Fishermen with boats can head out as early as morning, once the fog lifts.
The sea is about 21 degrees, and with 28 degrees in the air in the afternoon it is fine for swimming, at least briefly. The beaches are already without lifeguards, and the offshore wind carries inflatable mattresses and boats out to sea, so children should not stray far from the shore.
On 9 October 2006 nearly 10 liters of rain fell
On this date in Burgas years ago the weather was completely different. In 2006 the temperature ranged between 16 and 18 degrees and nearly 10 liters of rain per square meter fell. Last year it was from 11 to 18 degrees with over 5 liters of rain, and in 2016 the morning was only 8 degrees. In the five years in the archive the maximum on 9 October has not exceeded 18 degrees, averaging about 17, so today's 28 is about 11 degrees above normal for the date.
A jacket in the morning, a T-shirt in the afternoon, caution on the road near Vaya
The difference between morning and afternoon is 15 degrees, so dress in layers, with a top that is easy to take off. For running and cycling the best time is between 5 and 7 p.m., when it is warm but the sun is no longer scorching. Morning workouts near the lakes pass through damp fog.
On Friday many people set off for the weekend as early as morning. The fog is thickest on the road to Sofia past Vaya and on the road to Sunny Beach past Lake Atanasovsko, so drive there with headlights on and more slowly. After 9 o'clock visibility is good everywhere.
On Saturday the sky has broken cloud, temperatures are from 15 to 25 degrees, without rain, and the wind turns to the east and blows at about 12 km/h.
