Fog and 99% humidity at 8am

Wednesday in Burgas starts with fog and a chill. At 8am it is 10C and humidity is 99%. Visibility will be poor in the first hours after sunrise at 7:13am around the Vaya, Atanasovsko and Mandrensko lakes and on roads outside the city. Drivers heading to work should use dipped headlights and leave a bigger gap to the car in front. The damp makes the road slippery on bridges and in shaded bends, and windscreens mist up fast, so it helps to turn on the air conditioning at the start of the trip.

For people who work outdoors, on building sites, at the port or in the markets, the morning is cold and wet. Gloves and a waterproof jacket will help until midday.

Clear sky and 22C at 2pm

The fog lifts by noon. At 2pm the sky is clear, with 22C and 45% humidity, and it feels like about 21C. The sun will shine for about 10 of the 11 daylight hours. The UV index reaches 5, so anyone who stays outside for long in the afternoon may burn their face and neck. There will be no rain all day. At 8pm it is 18C and cloudy, with 64% humidity. The sun sets at 6:41pm.

East wind with gusts up to 26 km/h

The wind blows from the east at about 13 km/h, with gusts up to 26 km/h. It comes off the sea, so it feels cooler on the Bridge, on the beach and in the Sea Garden than in the inland neighbourhoods. The air is clean. The air quality index is 38, which is good.

Sea at 21C, waves up to 20cm

The water is about 21C and waves are no higher than 20cm. The sea is smooth. Anyone used to swimming in autumn will find calm water and sun in the afternoon. For most people, though, the day is better for a walk along the shore, because the east wind chills you fast after you leave the water.

No rain: gardens need water

Morning fog wets the leaves and grass but does not reach the roots. In dry, sunny weather, flower beds and potted flowers on balconies need watering in the afternoon. It is best to do it after midday, when the leaves have dried, because leaves that stay wet all night catch fungus more easily. Lawns are better mown in the afternoon than in the morning, when the grass is wet and gets pulled up.

Leaves on street trees are turning yellow and falling, and the wet piles of them on pavements in Lazur, Vazrazhdane and the centre are slippery for pedestrians in the morning. Chrysanthemums and asters, which are in bloom now, cope well with cool mornings. It is a good time to plant bulbs and shrubs in parks and yards, because the soil is still warm and the nights are mild.

On 7 October 2025, 49 litres of rain fell

Today is nothing like last year, when 49 litres per square metre fell in Burgas on the same date and temperatures were between 12C and 14C. In 2016 the day was like today: dry, with 11C to 21C. In 2006 the thermometer stood between 17C and 19C without a drop of rain. The usual daytime temperature for this date is about 17C, so today is five degrees warmer. The five years in the archive show no clear trend, and warm and cold, dry and wet days on this date alternate.

Jacket in the morning, T-shirt at lunch

The morning calls for a jacket or sweater, and by midday you will be carrying it. Running and cycling are more pleasant after 11am, when the fog has lifted and the air has dried. For an after-work walk in the Sea Garden, take an extra layer, because it cools by evening and the wind blows from the sea. You will need a hat and sunglasses for a lunch break outside. Drivers heading home after sunset should watch for pedestrians on unlit streets, where wet leaves reduce grip.

On Thursday morning there will be fog again. Temperatures will range from 12C to 21C, the wind will blow from the south-east at about 11 km/h, and no rain is expected.
