The navy has destroyed six floating mines in Bulgarian waters so far, navy commander Rear Adm Kiril Mihaylov said.
He met the ships at the Sea Station in Varna as they returned from the latest mission of the Black Sea mine countermeasures group, which had been working in Turkish waters.
Since the start of the year, the military has pulled out or destroyed more than 100 drones in various areas. Of all those found so far, 35 have been destroyed because some of them were dangerous. Sailors remove or destroy the remains of drones washed up on the shore or found at sea.
A joint operation to monitor and control traffic is now under way in the Black Sea, Mihaylov said. All branches of the Bulgarian Army are taking part: the navy, air force, land forces and special operations forces. Drones are also watching some sea areas.
"We continue to survey our waters and shipping lanes regularly to make sure they are safe for ships and that there are no floating mines," Mihaylov told BNT.
