The navy has destroyed on the spot, or pulled from the sea, parts of more than 100 drones since the start of the year, navy commander Rear Admiral Kiril Mihaylov said.
Mihaylov spoke at the Sea Station in Varna, where he welcomed ships back from the latest mission of the international Black Sea mine countermeasures group.
Parts of 35 of the drones found so far were dangerous, and sailors destroyed them. The navy also pulls parts of drones with no warhead out of the water, because they too threaten shipping.
In Bulgarian waters, the navy has destroyed 6 floating mines.
Two patrol ships are now on duty in Bulgarian waters. They watch shipping and look for floating mines and drone debris to destroy.
Mihaylov said the navy is doing a good job of surveying Bulgarian waters and keeping them safe. "We continue our efforts both in a coalition format with our allies from neighbouring countries and on our own," he said.
To improve monitoring and control of Black Sea traffic, the navy works with all branches of the Bulgarian armed forces. Aircraft also take part in the operation, and sailors use drones from the Land Forces and the Joint Special Operations Command.
The Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, based at Varna airport, watches the sea and will continue its tasks. "This is already support from our allies," Mihaylov said.
Military prosecutors and counter-terrorism officers from the Interior Ministry inspected the ship Chelsea 3 in October at the port of Burgas. They looked for traces of the drones that hit it in the Black Sea and tried to find out what explosive was used.
The navy is in constant contact with neighbouring countries, NATO's Maritime Component Command, and the US and French navies.
