Burgas water utility will pave the problem stretches in the city by the end of the year, including the one outside the entrance to Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov University, the company says.
Months after workers repaired the water pipe there, the road surface still hasn't been fixed. There's only gravel and loose fill on the spot, no proper paving, and it's making life hard for pedestrians and drivers alike.
A Burgas resident who walks his child past the spot every day on the way to kindergarten reported the problem to us. He says passing cars kick up stones onto the pavement and hit pedestrians. He hopes the authorities will step in and get the road paved.
Students and lecturers walk through the area, along with residents of nearby apartment blocks and parents with small children, since there's a kindergarten close by.
The water utility blames the delay on work being halted with the firm that was meant to do the paving. It has now opened a public tender to find a new contractor, the company added.
Burgas council says fixing the road surface after emergency or planned repairs is the water utility's job, and its cost, and the road must be put back exactly as it was before the work started. The council is mapping the city's worst trouble spots, and in some of them it has already paid for the paving and clean-up itself, more than once, to keep people safe.
