Key Priorities for Bulgaria's Energy Security
Bulgaria is actively working on the implementation of the strategic "Vertical Gas Corridor" project. According to the Bulgarian Ambassador to Romania, Radko Vlaykov, the project is of crucial importance for the energy independence of the countries in Southeast and Central Europe.
"This corridor is a strategic project that connects the countries in the region and guarantees long-term energy security in the context of challenges to energy supplies," the ambassador emphasized.
Main Construction Stages
- Kulata-Kresna Looping: A new gas pipeline with a diameter of DN 700 and a length of 48 km.
- Piperovo-Pernik Route: Includes a new "Piperovo 2" compressor station.
- Rupcha-Vetrino Looping: A key route with a diameter of DN 1200, directed towards Romania.
The integration of these components will increase the transit capacity for natural gas along the Greece-Bulgaria-Romania route by between 50 and 70 percent. Ambassador Vlaykov assured that the project is on schedule, with all necessary pipes already delivered to the construction sites.
Future Connectivity with Romania
In addition to energy projects, the focus is also on infrastructure connectivity. The construction of a new bridge at Ruse-Giurgiu is planned, with 2031 being a realistic deadline for its completion, provided that administrative obstacles are overcome.
