Varna to host the European Geography Olympiad (EGEO 2026)
From June 28 to July 2, Varna will be the center for young geography talents. The European Geography Olympiad (EGEO 2026) brings together participants from 13 countries who will demonstrate their knowledge in a competitive environment.
Over 100 students in two age groups – up to 16 and up to 19 years old – will compete in three key rounds.
Stages of the competition:
- Written exam: Solving cases and questions from various geographical fields.
- Fieldwork: Demonstration of cartographic skills and observational abilities in an unfamiliar environment.
- Multimedia test: Analysis of visual materials, charts, and tables.
In addition to the competitive part, the program includes cultural tours to iconic sites such as Cape Kaliakra, Aladzha Monastery, and the University Botanical Garden in Balchik. The official closing ceremony and awarding of the winners will take place on July 2.
Organizers of the prestigious event include the Ministry of Education and Science, the "Dr. Petar Beron" High School of Mathematics, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", Varna Municipality, and the Association of Natural Science Olympic Teams.
