The vision for the preservation of the Old Town of Nessebar, which is part of the world heritage on the UNESCO list, was presented in Nessebar. The document was developed at the request of the World Heritage Committee and is the first step in the process of public consultations preceding the adoption of the Plan for the Preservation and Management of the Ancient City of Nessebar.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Nessebar Municipality, Nikolay Dimitrov, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Alexander Traykov, the Director of the National Institute for Intangible Cultural Heritage, Arch. Alice Ismailova, architects, archaeologists, experts and citizens.
The vision, which covers the period up to 2045, aims to define measures and activities for the sustainable preservation of Ancient Nessebar. It places in the center an integral approach to the preservation of the historical and cultural heritage in combination with the needs of modern life and economic development. The document is based on the concept of "historical urban landscape", which integrates the archaeological heritage, medieval churches, Revival architecture, traditional urban structure and the marine landscape. The vision provides for measures to limit adverse effects, restore the historical urban environment and comprehensively improve management.
Nessebar Municipality calls on the owners of houses that are cultural monuments to apply for funds from the Municipal Fund "Culture" to support the design for restoration, if necessary.
