A worker died after falling from a warehouse building in Sofia, and the Sofia city prosecutor's office has charged a company manager over his death. Prosecutors have filed the indictment with the court.
The accident happened on December 4, 2024, when the worker fell from the roof structure of the building and suffered a severe head injury. He was treated at the Military Medical Academy, where he died on December 11.
Prosecutors say the manager failed to follow health and safety rules during the construction work. He did not provide a hard hat or a safety harness, and did not ensure safe conditions for work at height. Prosecutors say these failures caused the fall, and that there is a direct link between the injuries and the worker's death. The court still has to set a date for a preliminary hearing in the case.
The National Social Security Institute recorded 762 workplace accidents across Bulgaria in the first three months of 2026 — 578 of them at the workplace itself, and 184 while workers were traveling to or from work. The number of recognized workplace accidents was down by 24 compared with the same period last year.
