Experts from the Bulgarian Biodiversity Society are launching a large-scale initiative to preserve authentic Karuk animal breeds, which are an extremely important part of the national natural heritage.

The project covers extensive research and selection activities, focused on specific representatives of the local flora – including sheep, horses, and dogs traditionally raised in the mountainous regions of Kresna and Pirin.

Through strategic partnership with Pirin National Park, the organization aims not only for genetic preservation but also promotion of cultural traditions associated with these unique animal husbandry practices.

A key element of the activity is training initiatives for local farmers and volunteers who receive specialized preparation for sustainable breeding and reproduction of endangered breeds.

The ultimate goal of Semperviva is to transform scientific research into a living tool for preserving biological diversity and cultural identity of Bulgarian mountain regions.
