On September 25, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:20 p.m., Hristo Botev Primary School in the Sarafovo district will mark European Sport Day. The event will bring together 380 students from grades 1 through 7, under the motto "From School to the Olympic Podium."
For another year running, the school in Sarafovo has organized activities tailored to students' ages. First- and second-graders will take part in the "Safe Travel to School" activity, while third- and fourth-graders will join "Safe Cycling to School." All students from first to fourth grade will also take part in the "Sport Without Waste" initiative, through which teachers hope to teach children to protect the environment.
Older students will watch demonstrations in taekwondo, volleyball and basketball, and the school's singing and dance clubs from Hristo Botev Primary School in Sarafovo will also perform for the audience.
A special guest will attend the event — Georgi Markov, Olympic weightlifting silver medalist from the Sydney 2000 Games. He will talk with the students, and physical education teacher Rositsa Borisova will interview him in front of them.
Yuri Gromov — a seventh-dan ITF master, international instructor and top-category "A" referee at the Master Gromov Team club — will give a taekwondo demonstration. Volleyball coach Hristo Velikov of the Deya Volley club will talk about his team and its achievements, while basketball coach Mihail Kapitanov of Chernomorets 1946 will lead a demonstration training session. Inspector Nikolay Karakolev of the Burgas Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry will explain to the children how to ride bicycles safely in city traffic.
School officials say the goal of the initiative is to encourage children to pursue their dreams and stay active beyond physical education classes. According to the organizers, sport builds healthy habits and teaches teamwork and responsibility — qualities useful both in personal life and later in the workplace.
The event is part of the "Be Active" initiative and is being held under the hashtag #SSD2026.
