Children at Burgas University Hospital are now greeted by storybook characters, animals and travellers painted on the walls of the first paediatric ward. Students made the artwork, and poems hang beside each picture.
Six young artists worked on the paintings. Five study at the "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" National School of Music and Stage Arts, and one goes to "Geo Milev" English Language School in Burgas. They are Maria Kuneva, Veronika Kyumyurdzhieva, Yoana Koleva, Raya Stefanova, Mihail Angelov and Simona Marinova.
Associate professor Elena Dicheva, who teaches at Burgas's "Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov" University, wrote the verses with presbytera Kalina Kuneva.
Organisers say the paintings make the hospital feel warmer and friendlier for children. A picture, a bright colour or a smiling storybook character, they say, can lighten a child's hard day.
The Orthodox Christian brotherhood "Alexander Georgiev - Kodzhakafaliyata" backs the project. Organisers thanked the "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" school and its headmaster, Mr. Vatev, for getting the students involved.
Associate professor Boris Angelov heads the first paediatric ward, and Magdalena Valcheva is the head nurse.
