Negotiations for peace in Ukraine are entering a final phase, announced former US President Donald Trump after a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. Trump emphasized that both leaders, Zelensky and Putin, want peace.
Before the meeting with Zelensky, Trump spoke on the phone with Russian President Putin for over an hour and plans another conversation after the meeting in Florida. Trump described Zelensky as “very brave” and noted the bravery of the Ukrainian people. Zelensky stated that territorial concessions, which are considered a red line, would be discussed.
Trump also mentioned "very strong attacks" from Ukraine, saying that he thought they should have been done and that there were explosions in Russia. He also stated that there would be "very strong security guarantees for Ukraine."
Zelensky, for his part, wrote on Telegram that he would discuss security guarantees for Kyiv from the US and Europe, a plan for the reconstruction of Ukraine, and other important issues. The two presidents issued a joint statement in which Trump emphasized the commitment of Putin and Zelensky and that the peace talks are in their final stage.
High-ranking representatives from both countries attended the meeting, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as well as General Dun Cain – Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
