A tragic incident shook the coast of Albania when the body of 51-year-old Captain Arben Anamali was discovered after a large-scale rescue operation that lasted nearly two days.
The rescue expedition, which started in the early morning hours around 05:00, ended with the discovery of the captain's body, who sacrificed his own life for foreign tourists.
According to initial investigations, two Israeli tourists found themselves in a critical situation due to strong water currents while swimming. Noticing the danger, Anamali immediately reacted by jumping into the water to help them.
With exceptional selflessness, the captain managed to bring the tourists to the safety of the vessel, but subsequently disappeared under the water. Experts suggest that physical exhaustion caused health complications that led to drowning.
Anamali, a father of two minors, had been working as a captain of tourist vessels owned by the Shkodra municipality since last year. His heroic act turned into a personal tragedy for his family and loved ones.
The incident caused deep sympathy among the local community, which honors the captain's self-sacrifice in saving foreigners at a critical moment.
