Archaeology in the Depths: Forum in Burgas Gathers Researchers
On June 5th, Burgas will become a center for maritime history. The specialized forum "Preserving Underwater Cultural Heritage – Capacity Building, Exchange, and Training" will present the latest achievements in underwater archaeology.
The event aims to promote cultural and historical sites along our coast and to introduce the public to methods for their preservation.
Technologies and the Past
Visitors will learn about the innovations changing the exploration of the seabed:
- State-of-the-art geophysical equipment
- Underwater robots and remote research methods
- Virtual tour of shipwrecks from the "Black Sea" project
Speakers at the event will be Ivelina Petkova and Dr. Nayden Prahov. They will discuss the role of UNESCO in protecting underwater heritage, as well as the impact of climate change on the ecology of the Black Sea.
Why Is the Black Sea Unique?
Thanks to specific natural conditions, ancient vessels discovered in deep-water zones have reached us almost intact. The forum provides a rare chance for history enthusiasts to get a glimpse into these "time capsules."
