A business high school in Burgas is sending a team to the final of the European Innovation Camp - Youthopia, which takes place in Bruges, Belgium, in November, the school says. The team, called "Wave of Change", is Bulgaria's only entry among teams from 9 European countries.
The team is made up of Katalina Doncheva, Veneta Tasheva, Gabriela Zlateva, Nikol Dimitrova and Elizabeth Teneva, all in 12th grade. Their team leader is Anastasia Nikolova.
The girls want to turn Burgas's seasonal seafront into a year-round, carbon-neutral hub for young people. Power would come from solar panels and kinetic water wheels driven by the current.
Under the plan, young people would get free access all year round to a place to learn, meet, create and hold events, with smart technology and a say for young people themselves in how it runs.
The contest, also known as Youthopia 2026, is run by Junior Achievement Europe under the EU's Re-Value project, and a European panel judges the entries.
The school links the team's success to Burgas's bid to become a future European Capital of Culture.
