The campaign for president and vice-president is already under way and runs until midnight on 23 October, with the vote set for 25 October.
This time round, people will vote on machines at every polling station except where fewer than 300 voters are registered. There are more than 11,700 polling stations across Bulgaria.
Bulgarians abroad will be able to vote in 66 countries. So far just over 18,400 people have applied to vote from abroad — as usual, most are in Turkey, followed by the UK, Germany and the US.
A record 27 pairs of candidates are running for president and vice-president this year.
Yesterday, though, the Central Election Commission threw out the registration of vice-presidential candidate Sergey Indzhov. He had been running alongside Alexander Tomov, but it turned out Indzhov was not a Bulgarian citizen by birth — so the commission struck him from the ballot.
Later that evening, it emerged that Tomov already had a new running mate — Alexander Garibov, who replaces the rejected Indzhov. The Central Election Commission still has to check his paperwork.
