FC Sozopol have become the second confirmed semifinalist from the Burgas region in the Amateur Football League Cup. The team was awarded a 3:0 walkover win over Balgarovo 1948, as the quarterfinal between the two sides never actually took place. The match had been scheduled for September 22 at 4:30 p.m., but it did not go ahead, and the result was awarded in Sozopol's favor. The official tournament records now show a 0:3 scoreline, with the team advancing without having played a single extra minute in what is already a busy September schedule.
Before Sozopol, Apollonia Pontica had already booked their place among the last four after beating Orizare 4:2. The other two regional quarterfinals are still awaiting resolution — Balkan 1980 Planitsa will face Neftohimik 1962, while OFK Pomorie take on Byala Reka 1 Zaychar. As of September 23, no dates have been set for either fixture, and the semifinal schedule has yet to be announced.
Under the competition rules, each regional council sends a representative to the second stage of the Cup. There, the winners from the various regions within a zone play each other until a zonal representative is determined. For Third League clubs, participation is mandatory — a rule that also applies to Sozopol. As a result, the "sky blues" have already advanced a step further in the regional stage without even setting foot on the pitch.
The team's focus now shifts back to the league — the Southeast Third League. On September 26 at 5:00 p.m., Sozopol will host Sekirovo in a Matchday 8 fixture to be played at the stadium in Balgarovo. Before that, Sozopol played out a 0:0 draw away to Botev Plovdiv's second team, while in the previous round they claimed a thrilling 4:2 win over Neftohimik. In that match, Sozopol had trailed 0:2 before completing a full turnaround thanks to two goals from Glen Habimana and strikes from Stoyan Kizhev and Dimitar Nikolov.
