Workers from the Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture (IARA) will protest in front of the Burgas regional administration building on 5 October from 12:00. The regional union «Podkrepa» is organizing the protest. They say the move is against a possible change to the agency's status. They want the agency to stay an independent body.
The «Podkrepa» labor confederation asked agriculture minister Plamen Abrovski to resign in a statement on 1 October. This follows his comments on Bulgarian National Radio on 28 September 2026. He spoke about a possible merger between IARA and the Executive Agency for Forests (IAG).
Minister Plamen Abrovski made a statement on 10 September. He said that if IARA is restructured or joined with another body, control over the Black Sea, the Danube, and inland areas will not drop. He said it will actually be stronger. He said the goal is to make the general administration more efficient without hurting the specialist control teams. The minister noted that early data shows the agency may cut about 26 general staff members, but the specialist control teams will stay.
IARA workers also plan to protest in front of the Kardzhali regional administration on 7 October.
