Burgas club SKB Burgas finished second in the team standings at the Varna Cup, an international freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling tournament, the club says. Its wrestlers won two gold and three bronze medals, and five more finished fifth.
Both titles came in the children's II group. Kiril Trendafilov, who competes in the younger group, children's I, won the under-35kg class. Ivan Krasimirov took first place at under 38kg.
Boyan Kukuchev won bronze at under 42kg in children's II. The club sent him special congratulations because he, too, is in the younger age group. Yovcho Belchev came third at under 38kg in the same age group, and Yanislav Atanasov was on the podium in the under-85kg class for boys up to 15.
Among the children, Viktor Ivanov (under 30kg), Ventsislav Dimitrov (under 38kg) and Alex Dimov (under 42kg) finished fifth. Zlatko Peev also came fifth at under 85kg among boys up to 15.
The club says the team's success came from steady effort, hard work and commitment.
Martin Stanev, who finished fifth at under 53kg, was on the mat for the first time and had no competition experience. The club says he showed a desire to wrestle and acquitted himself well.
