Volodymyr Kurtov of the "Bushido" Sports Club in Nesebar came home with two medals from the "Black Sea Warriors" international tournament in Constanța, Romania. Weighing in at 29.7 kg, he competed in two weight categories – up to 30 kg and up to 35 kg.
In the up-to-30-kg category, Kurtov dominated throughout the bout. However, he finished second: under the rules, when the score is tied, victory goes to the lighter fighter, and he was heavier than his opponent. In the up-to-45-kg category, though, there was no doubt about who the better fighter was: he made it to the final and floored his opponent with two knockdowns, securing a clean win and the gold medal.
The young fighter has been training at "Bushido" since the fall of 2025. He made his international debut in June this year at the "Black Sea Cup" tournament in Nesebar, where he took home silver. His coaches praise him for his consistency in training, and the club itself is run by some of the country's leading combat sports specialists.
"The achievements of our young athletes at national and international tournaments prove that the Nesebar Municipality's consistent policy and ongoing investment in children and sports infrastructure are paying off. We will continue supporting the clubs to provide the best possible conditions for the development of youth sports," said Nesebar Mayor Nikolay Dimitrov.
