Sofia city prosecutors have charged a man with possessing large amounts of counterfeit euro notes and fake postage stamps, and sent the indictment to court.
The indictment says investigators found 124 counterfeit 200-euro notes from the 2002 series and one counterfeit 500-euro note, also from the European Central Bank's 2002 series, on the man in Sofia on May 22, 2023. The notes had a total face value of 25,300 euros.
Investigators also found four A4 sheets printed with fake postage stamps bearing the words "Posteitaliane" and "Italia" and a stated value of 2 euros.
In a separate case opened on March 24, prosecutors charged five people — two Bulgarians, two Romanians and one Italian — with possessing large amounts of counterfeit currency.
The court has yet to set a date for the first hearing.
