Anton Stankov launched a sharp criticism of the current state of the Bulgarian judicial system in an expert commentary to national media. According to him, justice has become an instrument for personal gain and political manipulation, whose roots begin with legal education.
Analyzing the current situation, Stankov emphasized the dramatic challenges facing the judicial system. Particular attention was paid to the processes surrounding the leadership of the Supreme Administrative Court and the prosecution, which demonstrate deep institutional deficits.
A key point in his expert assessment is the mechanism for selecting leadership personnel. Legislative changes adopted at the beginning of the year limited the mandate of temporary acting officials to six months, which caused a series of complications.
A specific example of the institutional crisis is the situation with Georgi Cholakov, who is leaving his position as head of the Supreme Administrative Court. His withdrawal will be compensated by Vice Presidents Marinika Cherneva and Lyubomir Gaydov.
Parallel to these processes, civil organizations like "Justice for Everyone" are organizing protests against the detention of Borislav Sarafov at the head of the prosecution, which they define as unlawful.
Stankov definitively described the existing legislative norms as "underdeveloped", which raise more questions than they solve. He emphasized that the mere fact of such discussions around legal texts is an indicator of their imperfection.
Political dependencies, according to the expert, have increased dramatically. Figures who temporarily perform leadership functions are extremely vulnerable to external influences, which further compromises the judicial system.
The presidential assessment of the list of potential interim prime ministers as a "Home Book" further illustrates the depth of the institutional crisis. The Constitutional Court, according to Stankov, demonstrates passivity by avoiding addressing the essence of the problems.
In the context of the parliamentary crisis, the judicial system is facing an unprecedented challenge – lack of a full-fledged Supreme Judicial Council and the inability to fully manage key judicial institutions.
Stankov's final conclusion is definitive: Bulgarian justice needs a fundamental reform that will eliminate political influences and restore its independence and professional integrity.
