Russian drones hit Ukraine overnight and on the morning of Thursday, 29 October. Thirteen people died at a railway station in Dnipro, and another person was killed when a drone struck a business in the Sarny area. People were also hurt in Kharkiv and Mala Danylivka, including two children. Russia has been waging a full-scale war on Ukraine since February 2022.
Overview of the night
The Ukrainian Air Force says the enemy has launched 112 Shahed attack drones since 18:00 on Wednesday, 40 of them jet-powered. It also used Gerbera and Parodiya decoy drones.
By 08:00, air defence had shot down or jammed 97 drones, 30 of them jet-powered, and about seven were still in the air. Drones hit seven places, and debris fell on five.
Dnipro
A jet-powered drone hit the platform at Dnipro railway station, where train No. 866 Dnipro–Zaporizhzhia was standing. There were people on the platform despite the air raid alert.
Regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha said 13 people died and at least five were wounded. Rescuers, doctors and police are at the scene.

Kharkiv and Mala Danylivka
Drones struck Kharkiv and its surroundings early in the morning. In the village of Mala Danylivka, at about 05:25, a woman, a man and their two daughters, aged 13 and 5, were hurt and their house was damaged, the regional prosecutor's office said.
At about 7am in Kharkiv's Industrialnyi district, a private home was damaged and a 51-year-old woman was wounded. In the Saltivskyi district, a strike hit the grounds of an educational institution. A 72-year-old woman was wounded in the Kholodnohirskyi district.
Trucks, buses and other vehicles also caught fire in the city.
Sarny, Rivne region
A Russian strike hit a civilian business in the Sarny area overnight into 29 October and started a fire. A man was killed.
Rescuers put out the fire, and all emergency services worked at the scene.
Druzhkivka, Donetsk region
Soldiers from the 28th Mechanised Brigade said the Russians again hit a residential area of Druzhkivka with guided aerial bombs, then reported a "destroyed Ukrainian army position". When troops arrived, the only person at the "position" was a wounded local woman, and her house was on fire. Her injuries are not serious.
The soldiers put her in a MaxxPro armoured vehicle and took her to medics. She is now receiving care, and specialists are arranging her evacuation to regions away from the front line.
Pokrovsk, Donetsk region
Separately from the overnight attacks, Russian colonel general Sergei Kuzovlev has been named a suspect over the missile attack on Pokrovsk on 15 February 2023. He is accused of violating the laws and customs of war, in connection with deliberate killing. Investigators say he organised the planning and led the preparation of the strike.
At about 10:04 that day, Russian forces shelled the city with Smerch or Tornado-S rocket systems, firing at least two 300mm rockets. Seven apartment blocks in the Sonyachnyi microdistrict and Lyceum No. 2 in the Shakhtarskyi microdistrict were damaged. Three residents were killed and 11 were wounded.
