A Russian drone has hit a spent nuclear fuel storage facility near the decommissioned Chernobyl nuclear power plant, Ukrainian authorities reported on Sunday. They emphasize that "the level of radiation at the site remains stable" and no dangerous change has been recorded.

In separate statements, the General Staff in Kyiv and the state atomic agency clarified that a "container reception building" was hit, which is "partially destroyed". According to the Ukrainian side, there was no spent nuclear fuel stored at the facility at the time of the attack, preventing any risk of radioactive contamination.

A fire broke out after the strike, which was contained and extinguished. Authorities report that "there is no information about injuries" as a result of the incident. According to the provided information, the facility is located approximately 15 km from the Chernobyl NPP – the site of the worst nuclear accident in history.

The Russian side has not yet made a public comment regarding the alleged attack on the facility. Meanwhile, the International Atomic Energy Agency, whose team is working in the Chernobyl area, announced that agency inspectors "will soon visit the scene" to assess the damage and any potential consequences on site.
