Russia attacked Kyiv with Shahed attack drones and ballistic missiles. Four people were wounded when a restaurant in the Obolon district took a direct hit, and one of them is in serious condition, Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
Rescuers found the injured, and medics are treating them. At another address in Obolon, missile debris fell into the yard of an apartment block. Ukrainian air defences shot down some of the ballistic missiles.
President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the US, Europe and other partners to step up support for Ukraine and to limit Russia's ability to wage war and terrorise people. He said the strike showed once again that Moscow has no intention of ending the war, and will keep terrorising civilians and destroying infrastructure.
"Russia's choice is war. And it will be ready to stop only when it feels that its ability to drag out the war is shrinking," Zelensky said.
He said every extra billion dollars Russia earns from oil product exports can go to the war: to buy critical parts and equipment for weapons production, to build more Shaheds and missiles, and to hire new mercenaries.
The signals Russia got the day before may have given it the impression that it can keep up its attacks without serious consequences, Zelensky said. He said this must be put right.
