Russia attacked Ukraine overnight on 30 October with ballistic missiles, guided air-launched missiles and 113 drones, and one person died in Kyiv, the Air Force says. Russia has fought a full-scale war against Ukraine since February 2022.
Overview of the attack
Russia fired Iskander-M, S-400 and KN-23 ballistic missiles, four Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missiles and 113 Shahed strike drones. Of the drones, 83 were jet-powered. Gerbera drones and Parodiya decoy drones were also used.
The main strikes hit the Kyiv, Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk regions. By 7:30am, air defences had shot down or jammed 99 targets: three Kh-59/69 missiles and 96 drones, 71 of them jet-powered. Missiles and drones hit 17 sites, and debris from downed targets fell on five more.
Kyiv
In the capital's Dniprovskyi district, debris partly destroyed a one-storey building and started a fire. Rescuers found the body of a person who died, the State Emergency Service said. At two other sites, debris smashed windows in a residential building and damaged parked cars.
Kyiv's mayor said the city was "under ballistic attack". He said missile debris burned in the yard of a residential complex in the same district, and a shop building was partly destroyed.
In the Darnytskyi district, fires broke out in non-residential buildings. A warehouse, rubbish, timber and the roof of a disused building burned.
Kramatorsk
The National Police's Lyut brigade published photos today of Kramatorsk, showing smashed windows and battered facades. "Here autumn smells of more than rain," the brigade wrote, adding that war has long been part of the city's scenery.
Medics from the Shield of Life service are on duty in the city, go out after shelling and help the wounded. The photos are not from last night. On 20 October, Russian aircraft dropped three aerial bombs on residential areas of Kramatorsk. Three people were killed, two more were wounded, and four multi-storey blocks of flats were damaged.
