A 55-year-old man with 19 previous convictions has been charged with intentional murder as a dangerous repeat offender, after the death of a 60-year-old Ruse resident. Police solved the case in less than 24 hours, the regional police directorate (ODMVR) in Ruse and the Regional Prosecutor's Office said.

At about 1:30am on 28 October, someone called 112 to report a row between people living in two abandoned trailers near Tsvetnitsa Street. A police team went to the scene, and a 36-year-old man led the officers to the victim.

The 60-year-old was alive and conscious but helpless. He had many stab and cut wounds and head injuries. An ambulance crew and an ODMVR crime scene and investigation team also went to the scene. The man was taken to hospital but died despite treatment.

Investigators say the two men knew each other and had clashed before. On 27 October they talked about an old dispute and drank alcohol. The talk turned into a row and a fight. Early findings suggest the 55-year-old attacked the other man with a knife and a hard object and hit him many times on the body and head.

Police examined the scene and seized traces, physical evidence and the objects used to cause the wounds. The prosecutor's office was told at once. Detectives questioned witnesses, checked camera footage and looked for accomplices. In searches they found a knife and a wrench, which investigators say were used in the attack.

The charge falls under Article 116, paragraph 1, point 12, in conjunction with Article 115 of the Criminal Code. A court will decide on the preventive measure for him.

The results were presented by the head of the Ruse regional police directorate, chief commissioner Petar Vanev, Ruse regional prosecutor Radoslav Gradev and the prosecutor overseeing the case, Stilyan Grozev.

Vanev credited the result to good work on the ground.

Gradev said a large amount of evidence was gathered in a very short time. He said it is enough to establish who struck the blows and to seek criminal liability. "The result shows good cooperation and joint work between the prosecutor's office and the police," the regional prosecutor said.

The Regional Prosecutor's Office in Ruse leads and oversees the investigation. Forensic medical and other expert examinations will clarify all the circumstances of the death.

The accused has been convicted many times. He finished serving his last sentence, 1 year and 6 months in prison, in Lovech prison in July 2023.
