Ireland assumed the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU at the beginning of July, and to mark the occasion, Ambassador Kathryn Bunnon hosted a meeting with the group of EU member state ambassadors and representatives of the European Commission. During the conversation, Prime Minister Rumen Radev wished the island nation success in fulfilling its priorities until the end of the year, when its representatives will chair ministerial meetings and mediate disputes between partners in the Union, media and DPA report.
Discussing the current agenda, the participants focused on security, infrastructure connectivity, and competitiveness. During the discussion on the new Multiannual Financial Framework, Prime Minister Rumen Radev expressed support for the EU's new policies, but warned that their implementation must not come at the expense of traditional pillars such as the Common Agricultural Policy and cohesion policy.
To achieve real industrial cohesion and equality, Prime Minister Rumen Radev emphasized the need for less developed member states to have genuine access to the resources of the European Competitiveness Fund. He added that cohesion policy needs to be more actively integrated into areas such as science, education, and research and development, according to a statement from the Council of Ministers' press office.
