Prime Minister Rumen Radev wished Ireland success in realizing the stated priorities of its rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU, as the country took over the leadership of the Union at the beginning of July. The well-wishes were expressed at the conclusion of a working meeting with a group of ambassadors from EU member states and the European Commission representation, hosted by Irish Ambassador Catherine Bannon.
During the discussions, key topics on the agenda were reviewed, including issues of infrastructure connectivity, security, and highlights regarding the Union's competitiveness. Prime Minister Radev emphasized the role of the approved European Competitiveness Fund, insisting on ensuring real access to its resources, even for less developed member states. According to him, this is the path toward guaranteeing equality and achieving "industrial cohesion."
A special place in the talks was also dedicated to the negotiations on the new Multiannual Financial Framework of the European Union. While supporting the new focus, the Prime Minister warned that it should not be implemented at the expense of fundamental EU policies, such as the Common Agricultural Policy and cohesion policy. Radev stressed that cohesion policy needs new dimensions and must be more intensively engaged in sectors such as research and development, education, and science.
